Additional information:
Gestational age is the time measured from the first day of the woman's last menstrual cycle to the current date. It is measured in weeks.
The CRL is the length of your baby (top of it's head to it's bottom).

My UltraBaby Antenatal Classes look to fully prepare parents for their new bundle of joy, whether you are a first time parent or require a refresher. We aim to help parents grasp a thorough understanding of the changes occurring to a mother's body during labour & birth; identifying the natural phases of birth & developing early parenting skills.
My UltraBaby has focussed on providing classes catered to couples, as we feel it is important for the birthing partner, be it father of the child, mother, sister or friend, to be also actively involved in the pregnancy & childbirth of their baby.

Please note: We require a £50 booking fee. This will be deducted from the full price and the remaining amount will be taken on the day.
Classes are held at our clinic, to ensure a relaxed and homely atmosphere or within the familiar surroundings of your home. Refreshments are also available. Caters for expectant mothers from 26 weeks onwards.
Each couple will receive a My UltraBaby Antenatal Information Pack, consisting of handouts, relevant resource leaflets & list of useful website links or numbers for additional information. On completion, each couple will receive a complementary My UltraBaby gift bag.

Our Gynae clinics are run by an Obs & Gynae Consultant Specialist. All of our Gynae consultations and/or investigative scans will come with a full report and b/w prints. We would recommend that this report is presented to your healthcare provider. Upon a GP referral, a report will be sent directly to your GP.
Some Gynae investigative scans may involve transvaginal/internal scanning.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - Multiple follicles/cysts in the ovaries - Clinical signs include irregular periods, long menstrual cycles, acne, excess body hair, overweight &/or infertility.

Ovarian Cysts - A cyst is a sac filled with fluid and can remain dormant, especially in younger women. Occasionally due to ovarian functions, these will occur and require treatment upon further investigation. Generally, if a cyst is over 5cm diameter &/or present towards menopause, complications may occur. This scan determines if a cyst exists, type of cyst and number of cysts.

Follicle Tracking - Performed from 7 to 9 days of menstrual cycle to aid fertility treatment.

Fibroids - Benign tumours (non-cancerous) of the womb muscle. These are commonly found in women of reproductive age. There are 4 types of fibroids, dependent on the position:
Intramural - wall of womb (most common)
Subserosal - outside womb wall
Sub mucosal - found in muscle beneath inner lining of womb wall
Cervical - wall of the cervix (womb neck)

Endometriosis - Condition where cells that are traditionally located within the womb cavity is located outside.

Pelvic Pain - Reassurance scan to investigate acute/chronic pain of the pelvis, which can be common in women of any age. Confirms if there are any underlying problems.

Prolapse - mainly effects elderly women where the ligaments and supporting tissue of the pelvis stretch and weaken over the years, especially after childbirth. In severe cases a lump can be noticed protruding through entrance of the vagina. Prolapse can involve either vagina front wall (including bladder) or back wall (including bowel) or cervix & uterus.

Guide to your developing baby
Although your main Healthcare Provider will offer you regular blood screening, My UltraBaby (MUB) have now expanded upon our antenatal service - providing you with the options of a wider range of blood screening with efficient turnaround time for blood results. MUB are able to offer blood screening throughout pregnancy with a full screening report to confirm all findings.
Your blood will be taken from our qualified phlebotomist or midwife and will be sent through to our associated laboratory for screening. You will be advised on how long your results will take to process - which can be anything between 24 hours to a few days, as various screening packages may take longer than others. A report will be sent to you with your results for you to take back to your Healthcare provider.

Antenatal screening
This initial blood screening helps provide you and your Healthcare provider, details of your general health and any possible problems that may occur during your pregnancy.
Although these routine blood tests are available on the NHS, not all screening is offered to patients in detecting certain infections and can affect either mother or baby, i.e. Toxoplasmosis, Hep C, Hep B, Syphillis,or HIV.

Nuchal Translucency (15 to 20 Weeks Gestation)
Although not as accurate as the screen test performed within the first trimester, this test is available and is based on blood tests being specifically measured on various markers highlighted below. A mother carrying a Down's baby will have higher levels of hCG and inhibin A and lower levels of AFP and uE3. With these blood tests, you are confirmed a 60% to 76% accuracy and will aid towards making a decision on having an Amniocentesis to confirm your baby is a Down's baby.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) Screening (35 to 37 Weeks Gestation)
GBS is the most common cause of life-threatening infections in newborns in UK today, approximating at 700 babies a year. Most GBS infections are preventable by giving women intravenous antibiotics at the onset of labour, or to those delivering prematurely or have a history of GBS. In women carrying GBS, such antibiotics reduce the likelihood of early-onset GBS infection developing in newborns from 1 in 300 to 1 in 6000. Newborns are exposed to GBS shortly before or during birth and it is yet unclear as to why some babies are more susceptible to the bacteria than others.
Detection of GBS infection is not generally offered by the NHS however is highly recommended by all midwives and practitioners. MUB are pleased to now offer this simple test available to all expectant mothers, who can perform the test themselves.
Method: Available to expectant mothers of 35 to 37 weeks gestation. GBS Screening packs are available upon request from any MUB branch. We will be happy to send the packs to you via post, or alternatively you collect a pack from a local branch.
Patients will obtain the samples themselves, so can be performed at home. 2 swab samples are taken from the lower vagina and rectal. Simple instructions on how to take the swabs are provided in the pack, with details on how to complete the request form correctly. Should you have any queries, please contact MUB and a representative can advise you accordingly.
The swabs and request form then need to be sent to the laboratory in the pre-paid envelope provided. We will receive your results within 3 working days upon receipt of the sample and will contact you, confirming if GBS has been isolated (positive) or not-isolated (negative).

** Rh type can either be negative or positive. Women who are Rh negative are usually offered an injection post-delivery to protect any future babies from the risk of anaemia
***Serious infection which affects the liver that can be passed through to an unborn baby through blood and body fluids. If detected, a baby can be vaccinated at birth to prevent infection from developing.
****Immunity to Rubella is checked. If not immune, women are advised on how to reduce the risk of catching it and what steps to take if become infected.
